Roxy Theater Main Dressing Room-Hollywood, CA

Roxy-Theater-1

It was such an honor to be asked to re-design such an icon of the rock world! Young bands and seasoned rock stars have graced this room (and it showed!) I wish I could say I found something famous- but the walls told no tales I could repeat! The design parameters were quite strict with this project; nothing breakable, nothing fragile, maximize the space, make it a comfortable place and storage would be most welcome! I had a custom made bench with a lifting, lockable lid to store things in that took up most of one wall. The couch was a fabulous cast piece over rebar- super sturdy and fashionable at the same time! Leather studded belts were attached to the wall behind the couch with custom belt buckles with the Rockin R logo that made the Roxy so infamous! A bar area was created with a marble top, more storage and a refrigerator. Lastly a new door with a full length mirror to check your look one last time was added. New laminate flooring was added for easy cleaning and the whole place was painted.

2000 Square foot loft on the 12th floor in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. This project was a ceiling to floor upgrade to a historic bank building that was mostly cement. Paint was added to the ceiling, black velveteen curtains were made for all 13 windows and suspending on aircraft wire that ran the length of the loft on either side. Carpet was laid in the “living” area on one side and the office, guest and bedroom areas on the other side of the room. The middle and dining areas were laminate to help dampen sound from the baby grand piano and floating turntables between the main pillars. A custom silk cover was made for the couch. The open plan was challenging to make feel like a home without feeling cold, but also freeing in that it gave an opportunity for the owners to live 360- in every area all at once.

Work out! This project was a physical and mental workout! When I arrived, it was just a big empty space that had been painted twice, and was 8 months behind schedule! We cracked the whip on a contractor and used what little budget was left after delays to make it a motivational and lively work out space. Custom made curtains help block out afternoon sun and retro furniture was given a face lift to make the waiting area comfortable. Witty and whimsical features added a playful nature to bathrooms and changing areas and an organized office helped keep it all running smoothly!
